Jeff preached his first message this past Tuesday night at AXCESS, where College Life have been spending the semester looking at "The Mission of Christ in History".
Jeff's topic is "The Cross". Here are the sermon footnotes:
- Man has a dilemma: HIS SIN HAS SEPARATED HIM FROM GOD.
- God has a bigger dilemma: HIS HOLY LOVE WILL NOT ALLOW HIM TO OVERLOOK SIN, SINCE HE CANNOT ACT CONTRARY TO HIS CHARACTER.
- The Solution: GOD MUST SATISFY HIS HOLY WRATH BEFORE HE CAN EXTEND HIS LOVING FORGIVENESS. HE ACCOMPLISHES THIS BY GIVING HIMSELF, IN JESUS CHRIST, AS A PENAL SUBSTITUTE FOR OUR SIN.
You can listen to the entire message
here. You may also listen to the prior messages at www.collegelife.org, under the "Media" tab.
Since preaching is a community project and not just an individual endeavor, we welcome any and all comments or questions concerning the content of the message.
FYI: In the introduction of the sermon, I unintentionally apply general results of "scourging", including the breaking of bones, to Jesus. We know this to not be true is Jesus' case (Psalm 34:20; John 19:31-33). Sorry for any confusion.
